I attended Judy Hoebeke’s session today from 1-2pm. She recommended online resources that can support K-8 curriculum. Her experiences and insights that go along with the web resources were very helpful. Here are some of the websites she highlighted:
Eduplace – Most useful for advanced and at-risk students.
Michigan History – now categorized by grade level, great for core democratic values
Oregon Trail Virtual Tour – The “tried and true” software does not work on Vista, this website is an alternative
Energy Quest – science fair resources and more
Biomes of the World - excellent for middle school
Science Spot-Science Zone – make connection between science and careers
Visual Fractions
Art.com – on-line version of Paint
Dance Mat Typing
Judy’s website has her entire presentation on her website, http://www.calendonia.k12.mi.us/k12resource/ Find the link to MACUL from there.
Other things I learned (from audience members): 1) You can set the district filter to always use Google safe-search, even if the students change the setting, and 2) educators do not need unique email addresses to sign up students for Google docs (not sure how to do that…)
